Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins is a renowned champion for education equity and inclusion and is widely recognized as a distinguished author, educator, and leader. She was the first woman of color to lead the League of Women Voters of the United States (1998-2002).  During her time as president of the League of Women Voters, she led the organization’s push for the passage of the bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BDRA) which closed campaign finance loopholes in U.S. elections. She is the author of the 2021 book The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters, which was released in honor of the League’s centennial celebration. Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a Ph.D. from Cleveland State University.
