Passport Workshop

The goal of the passport workshop is to enlighten students about the importance of owning a U.S. passport. This program is best suited for students who may need guidance with the passport application process. First Trip’s interactive workshops are designed by our team of international scholars to benefit any organization seeking to educate youth, parents, and college students about passports and global citizenship. Some participants of this program may be eligible to receive a voucher to cover their passport application fees!

1. Global Citizenship

Participants engage in an exploration of the benefits of owning a U.S. passport and the many opportunities it provides. Special emphasis is placed on the fact that U.S. citizens are among the freest travelers in the world with access privileges to a majority of the world's countries without applying for and obtaining a visa. Other topics discussed include the benefits of study abroad and the rise of multiculturalism.

2. Passport Application Preparation

Our team members and volunteers are well-versed in the passport application process and will explain the “nuts and bolts” of the DS-11 passport application form and required supporting documents. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to take photos on site which they can add to a passport application!*

*The passport photography portion is unavailable for institutions outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan       area. This portion is also unavailable during virtual workshops.
3. Workshop Wrap-Up

At the workshop’s conclusion, participants will be globally enlightened, more prepared to navigate the State Department's website, more knowledgeable of the supporting documentation, and more prepared to complete the DS-11 form with their new photos! It's important to note that the standard turnaround time for passport processing is 8-11 weeks! Therefore, students should begin passport application prep long before making travel arrangements. First Trip does not process passport applications or documents.
